August 27, 2020 | In:

Many parents around the area are searching for different options for their children for the fall when children may or may not be in school full time.

We have found some business that are offering different options (We will continue to add to this list as we learn more).

DANCE WITHOUT LIMITS:

Dance Without Limits in Greenville is opening a Fine Arts Club in the fall of 2020. The Fine Arts Club will offer support to students as they navigate virtual learning while also providing arts enrichment in a safe, socially-distant environment.

Adult support for e-learning

DWL instructors will assist children with their remote learning schoolwork. Students will complete their daily assignments and attend virtual class meetings. The instructors will serve as proctors for daily schoolwork, not teachers.

Arts enrichment

Students will participate in daily arts enrichment classes including, but not limited to, dance, drama, art, and music.

Social distancing protocols

Class sizes will be limited. Masks will be worn by all staff and students. Students will be kept 6 feet apart at all workstations and in all classes.

Full day program Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for students in grades first through eighth. Early drop-off and late stay options available.

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF THE UPSTATE

In response to Greenville County Public Schools Return to School Plan, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate announced that full-day classes and after-school care will be available at TCMU for the 2020-2021 school year.

The partnership between TCMU and World Explorers is designed to provide flexible options for e-learning support and engagement within TCMU’s museum spaces, as parents navigate a shifting school schedule of both in-person and virtual learning. The Museum School with Greenville Explorers format will provide learning spaces that follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for health and safety, allowing students to study in small cohorts while having full access to the museum.

Fall programming, consisting of both full-day classes (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and after-school care (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.), will be held at TCMU’s Greenville location starting Aug. 31. Classes will be available for students K4 – fifth grade, with additional learning opportunities for middle and high school students.

World Explorers was founded by Pelzer, South Carolina native Kisha Edwards-Gandsy and Keyanna Murrill in 2003 in Brooklyn, New York and has since served over 3,000 families through camps, after-school programs, enrichment classes, and drop-off child care.

Families will have the opportunity to participate in Explorers classes such as Inventor’s Workshop, Artworks, Book Adventures and Global Kitchens. Healthy lunch and snacks will be provided, and children will have exclusive use of the museum exhibition spaces. Specifically, full-day Museum School classes will support and provide guided assistance for Greenville County Public Schools e-learning.

Classes and programs will be available for purchase in bulk, by week or even day-to-day—to allow for flexibility of changing school schedules based on health guidelines. Registration will open Aug. 3 at www.explorerkids.us/sc.

TCMU’s President and CEO Hillary Spencer notes, “We quickly recognized that we have the unique opportunity to meet the needs of our community by being able to provide reliable child care and educational support during this crisis. We look forward to serving the Upstate as a resource center for families with children.”

AFTER SCHOOL PLUS

After School Plus is offering 3 options for parents:

  • Academic Support for those in Virtual School- meets M-F 9a-12p for $200/week. It’s unique in that it is led by a teacher, not just a counselor or adult, but a real teacher and it’s live. These groups will have 10 or less students and be really safe.
  • Traditional After School- meets M-F after school until 5:30p for $79/week. We pick-up from schools in the Mauldin/Simpsonville area. Again unique in that most staff are teachers so homework time can include teaching content as needed.
  • Full Day Programming- meets M-F 8:30a-3p for $40/day with a weekly cap. This is available to parents as needed when eLearning days are announced. Students can join 2 or more day/week as needed. It is only open to students in our Traditional After School program so we can keep the cohorts cohesive, safe, and mitigate risk/germ spreading.
